Frenetic Screensaver for MS-Windows 3.1. The Frenetic Screensaver uses a variety of randomly selected patterns to endlessly build up designs. It can take some time to generate something interesting, so please give it a few goes if it is not initially appealing. The screensaver uses a 256 color palette if available, but it also runs on 16-color VGA. INSTALLATION 1. Copy the file frenetic.scr into your windows directory. 2. Run Control Panel. 3. Double click on the Desktop Icon. 4. In the Screen Saver Section, under name, select Frenetic. Press Setup to display Shareware and support details. Configuration options are stored in the file control.ini in your Windows directory after the saver has been run at least once. Find the section starting with [Screen Saver.Frenetic], towards the end of control.ini. The options can be edited with a text editor, such as Notepad.exe. You can change the default option "risky=no" to "risky=yes". Setting to "yes" will cause the mouse to disappear while the saver is running, but it also means that if the saver happens to crash, then Windows must be restarted to re-display the mouse. Crashes are unlikely, but there are a lot of permutations, and the Frenetic Screensaver is not guaranteed to never crash. While the screensaver is running, the following keys can be used: c On a 256 color system, the Colors being used will be changed. f The current drawing will Finish. Useful if it appears to be stuck. 1 Changes the speed to Slow, so that only the slower drawings are used, making it less distracting. 2 Normal speed - uses all drawings. 3 Changes the speed to Fast. The speed selected is stored in control.ini, and hence that speed is used each time the screensaver starts up, until it is changed again. SHAREWARE Frenetic Screensaver is Shareware. If you continue to use it after 14 days, please send a cheque for US$10 (or its equivalent in your currency or Australian dollars) to: P.M. Programming P/L, P.O. Box 282, Ryde, NSW 2112, Australia. SUPPORT: Internet: porum@ozemail.com.au Compuserve: 72317,3646 KNOWN PROBLEMS Some video drivers seem to get a GP Fault when too much stretching or shrinking is applied to fonts. If you find you get several GP Faults and there are large or small characters on the screen at the time, then add the line "fonts=no" to the Frenetic section in your control.ini. This will cause Frenetic to not use that section, and hopefully avoid those GP Faults. DISCLAIMER: P.M.
